HISTORY
Founder,
and director Dan Teller, a pioneer in the Montessori community,
had long envisioned a school that would offer an affordable Catholic
education with a Montessori approach. In 1997, he initiated a
series of community meetings to assess public interest in the
formation of a Catholic Montessori school. These produced a groundswell
of support.
Local
parents and educators mobilized, and a core group formed a Board
of Directors. Within a year, the Board raised $100,000 to launch
the program, further demonstrating the profound degree of interest
in the community for a Catholic Montessori program. In August
1998, Queen of Angels Montessori School opened its doors in leased
space in Newtown, Ohio, with 28 preschool and kindergarten students.
Since that time, we have maintained our business plan to expand
one grade level per year, and currently serve 181 students from
preschool through eighth grade. In 2002, we moved to our present
location just north of Mariemont, Ohio.
Queen
of Angels is a non-profit, independent school that is fully licensed
and chartered by the Ohio Department of Education. As a private,
independent school, Queen of Angels does not receive a parish
subsidy or funding from the Archdiocese.
