Best Educational Practices

Queen of Angels Montessori fulfills its mission of offering an “outstanding education” to children by integrating current best practices in the field of education with its core Montessori curriculum.

Really Learning with Dr. Mel Levine’s All Kinds of Minds
The Queen of Angels staff utilizes Dr. Mel Levine’s approach to understanding the mind and its eight neurodevelopmental systems:

  • Attention
  • Memory
  • Language
  • Spacial Sequencing
  • Temporal Sequencing
  • Motor
  • Social Cognition
  • Higher Order Thinking

This paradigm provides very detailed information and specific strategies about each of the eight learning systems. This can be very illuminating and helpful in understanding children. For parents who want to learn more about this as well, an excellent web site is www.allkindsofminds.org.

The article, How to Read Your Child’s Mind, provides a good overview of Dr. Levine’s work. Click Here to read

Institute for Excellence in Writing: Writing for Structure and Style
Our writing program, “Excellence in Writing: Structure and Style” begins in first grade and extends through middle school. Through systematic instruction and practice, children gain strong skills in the structure of writing clear paragraphs and cohesive reports; and they learn a variety of stylistic techniques that make their writing interesting and strong. Outlining, summarizing from notes, “fused outline reports,” creative writing, summaries, and critiques are all included in this comprehensive approach to writing instruction. Developing Emotional Intelligence Through Play
Using Dr. Curt Hinson’s approach, “Six Steps to a Trouble-Free Playground,” Queen of Angels students enjoy recess that is both fun, active, and productive. Dr. Hinson’s approach provides a practical way to:

  • Use the inclusion approach, where 100% of participating children play in a game 100% of the time, to the maximum of their ability
  • Encourage self-responsibility
  • Build intrinsic motivation
  • Build self-reflection on one’s behavior at recess at in school
  • Be active and engaged at recess!
